The Clinic and Community Centre project will be the first major project undertaken by Medics HELP. Our aim is to begin construction in 2013.
The goal is to identify a community in significant need of such a facility, then work with local officials and volunteers to plan-for and construct the facility.
The Community Centre/Clinic will inlclude a medical clinic open 7 days per week, an AIDS/HIV Education Centre, a place for community gatherings and community programs, playing/sporting facilities for local children and orphans, and an ambulance available at the site to transfer more serious patients seen at the clinic to larger hospitals in outlying cities. The Centre will also have a small, and very basic living facility to house our volunteers while deployed there.
Initially this project will be run by nurses, paramedics, medical students, physicians and other volunteers deployed by Medics HELP. While performing the regular duties involved in running the centre our volunteers will also be heavily involved with recruiting and training locals and negotiating with local government in order to eventually hand the facility over to the local community to run on a day-to-day basis. Eventually, like all of our projects the centre will be completely integrated into the local community, allowing for a sense of ownership by locals and less dependace on outside assistance heading into the future. Even after complete integration into the community, Medics HELP will continue to have some involvement with the facility in a supporting role.
Volunteers are being sought to help with both the construction and staffing of the facility for the next several years.
